Carnation @125683
This whale is known from the collaborative efforts of the Gulf of Maine Humpback Whale Catalog at the Center for Coastal Studies, the North Atlantic Humpback Whale Catalog at Allied Whale, College of the Atlantic and their contributors. Submissions are matched to these catalogs and contribute to their long-term work, thanks to a partnership with Happywhale. Humpback whales in the Gulf of Maine are named based on their fluke patterns through a long-standing community process. This whale was named for the strong dark splotch on the right fluke that looks like a carnation flower.
