Split Fin @4083

"Split Fin" is suspected to be male by Salish Sea naturalists Tasli Shaw and Erin Gless, based on photos, behavior and a sighting history since 2006 without a calf. Split Fin was born in 2006 to Big Mama, CRC-15122 or BCY0324. See more images of Split Fin on Flickr and in the Clayoquot Sound humpback whale catalog. With all data available in Happywhale through May 2026, we created a narrated animation of the lives and migrations of Big Mama and her family

Sighting records from Happywhale, published as occurrence data via GBIF. Individual records are licensed CC0 1.0, CC BY 4.0 or CC BY-NC 4.0, depending on the contributor.

The photographs and fluke identifications behind every sighting are the work of the contributing observers — the citizen scientists, naturalists and operators who logged them, each named in the underlying GBIF occurrence record. Every activity links out to its source encounters on Happywhale. Basemaps © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL).
