Rollercoaster @50730
Humpback whales in the Gulf of Maine are named based on their fluke patterns through a long-standing community process and related initiatives. This whale was named for the mark on the upper right side of the tail that looks like a rollercoaster climbing a hill. This whale has been cataloged by the Gulf of Maine Humpback Whale Catalog at the Center for Coastal Studies and the North Atlantic Humpback Whale Catalog at Allied Whale, College of the Atlantic. Submissions are matched to these catalogs and contribute to their long-term work, thanks to a partnership with Happywhale.
